Farewell to Our Bonnie Lass

Today marks the end of an era here at NCU. Bonnie the security guard is leaving us. Before you get too sad, though, know that it’s because she was promoted to a bigger site in Springfield. She says she’ll be in charge of more people and is looking forward to the new challenge. But that doesn’t mean she won’t miss us. We will definitely miss her, and her willingness to give advice, or a hug, for those of us who “miss their mommas,” as she puts it.

Bonnie has worked at NCU for 3 ½ years. She says her favorite memories here are of when students first began to realize that she was willing to give advice and hugs, or to just listen when they needed someone to talk to. That was when she knew she had been accepted into the NCU community. She said the best thing about being here is that it’s “more like a family than any other place where I have worked.”

And she has worked in a few different places. After growing up riding horses in New Mexico, she became a nursing assistant and later an LPN, spending 35 years in the nursing field. These years were interspersed with other jobs, such as two months driving an 18-wheeler, and her time as a school photographer, before she transitioned to security in 1995. She also moved between states a few times, spending 21 years in New Mexico, 21 in Texas, 13 in Kentucky (as well as at schools in the surrounding states), before coming to Oregon in 2009.

Bonnie, we thank you for putting up with all of our shenanigans and for being a part of our family. You will be missed. May God be with you on your new adventure.
